Applications to the Artist in Residence program are accepted on an ongoing
basis. Residencies typically last from 2-4 weeks. Artists are provided with
a room in the residency lodge, a 4-bedroom house with kitchen, 2 baths and
laundry room. Artists in residence have access to the unfinished Art Barn to
use as a studio if needed, as well as studio equipment. Artists have the
opportunity to get involved with the community during residency, whether
through collaborative projects, working with high school and/or college
students, community performances or artist lectures. In some cases the
residency is concluded with an exhibition; however artists should not feel
pressure to create new works specifically for show during residency. A
moderate stipend is provided to artists in residence. To apply please send:

Two Creativity Workshop Fellowships for Women Writers will be given to two
women fiction writers, poets, or playwrights for attendance at the
Creativity Workshop in Florence, Italy, July 13 - 22, 2007. The two
fellowships will be given on the
basis of a 500 word proposal to develop a new piece of writing in the
applicant's field. The proposal should include a
statement of how being in Florence and attending a workshop that includes
creative writing, drawing, storytelling and memoir would help develop the
project. The chosen writers will spend 10 days in the city of Florence,
Italy and attend the
Creativity Workshop.
1st PRIZE: Free tuition and 9 nights accommodations in a private room in
Florence, Italy to attend a Creativity Workshop July 13 - 22, 2007. (Airfare
is not included).

The Milena Jesenská Fellowships are awarded to enable experienced European
journalists in print, broadcasting, and electronic media to work in Vienna
for three months on projects of their own choice, free of daily duties and
obligations. The projects typically have not only local, but also European
relevance. Recent calls for applications have been directed towards cultural
journalists, with the term ‘cultural’ interpreted in a broad sense to
encompass all kinds of artistic and intellectual disciplines. Next call for
applications in Spring 2007.

NEH invites proposals for the planning or initial stages of digital
initiatives in all areas of the humanities. Digital Humanities Start-Up
Grants should result in plans, prototypes, or proofs of concept for
long-term digital humanities projects prior to implementation. These grants
support full-time or part-time activities for periods up to eighteen months.
Support is available for various combinations of scholars, consultants, and
research assistants; project-related travel; and technical support and
services. Up to 20% of the total grant may also be
used for the acquisition of computing hardware and software. All grantees
are expected to communicate the results of their work to appropriate
scholarly and public audiences. Deadline April 3, 2007.

The California Council for the Humanities is pleased to announce a new grant
line, Youth Digital Filmmakers. Youth Digital Filmmakers will support
projects that engage California youth in creating short films about how they
see California. The grant line is connected to
the Council’s upcoming youth-based campaign, “California Stories How I See
It.” The application MUST be filed between March 1, 2007 and April 2,
2007, with all supporting materials received by April 2, 2007. Each
project will involve a local filmmaker, a humanities scholar and a
community-based organization in an effort to create humanities-based media
that will be used for community screenings and wider distribution. CCH will
grant up to $30,000 per project. Grants will be awarded by June 30, 2007,
and final film/s must be completed by June 30, 2008. The Council will select
projects statewide that represent diverse populations, stories and areas of
California. Must involve teen(s) between 14-19.

artists of all disciplines, with no U.S. geographical restrictions; students
are not eligible. Each applicant must submit a detailed letter describing
the financial emergency, copies of outstanding bills, medical fee estimates,
etc., and current financial statements, along with a career resume,
exhibition or performance announcements, slides or photos of work and two
letters of reference from someone in the affiliated field (no video tapes).
Only complete applications will be accepted. Change, Inc does not issue more
than one grant per person.

The PEN Writers Fund is an emergency fund for professionally published or
produced—writers with serious financial difficulties. Depending on the
situation, the fund gives grants or loans of up to $1,000. The maximum
amount is given only under especially dire circumstances and when monies are
available. The PEN Fund for Writers and Editors with HIV/AIDS, administered
under the PEN Writers Fund, gives grants of up to $1,000 to professional
writers and editors who face serious financial difficulties because of HIV
or AIDS-related illness. The Writers Fund does not exist for research
purposes, to enable the completion of writing projects, or to fund
publications or organizations. The Writers Fund Committee meets
approximately every two months to review applications.
